The University of Michigan is preparing for a change in leadership as Jeff Moelich, the Executive Director of University Audits, announces his retirement effective June 30. Moelich has been a pivotal figure at the university, steering the department for nearly a dozen years with distinction.

Before joining U-M, Moelich accumulated extensive experience in both the private and academic sectors. Moelich’s academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Detroit and an MBA from the University of Michigan. He is also a Certified Public Accountant, underscoring his expertise in the field.

President Domenico Grasso expressed his gratitude for Moelich’s leadership, saying, “Earlier this year, Jeff shared his plans to retire. Jeff has been an outstanding leader of Audit Services for over a decade. His professional expertise, positive and helpful attitude, and kind demeanor will be deeply missed. We wish him the best in this next chapter of his life.”

As Moelich steps down, Hilaire Nachtrab, who is the internal audit associate director, will temporarily take on the role of interim executive director. Nachtrab brings over 20 years of auditing experience from both private and agency settings, including 12 years at U-M.

The university is set to initiate a national search for Moelich’s permanent successor, enlisting Opus Search Partners to aid in the process. This search is expected to commence in the coming weeks.

For those unfamiliar, Audit Services at U-M is a unit committed to independently and objectively collaborating with various university divisions to assess risks and enhance processes.
