The University of Georgia Celebrates Black History Month with Annual Scholarship Event
In a vibrant celebration of Black History Month, the University of Georgia’s Black Faculty and Staff Organization (BFSO) held its annual Founders Scholarship Luncheon this past Wednesday. The event, known for drawing a full house, serves as a platform to honor the trailblazers within the community.
Megan Brock, president of the BFSO, highlighted the importance of the gathering. “In support of us remembering our heritage, of us recognizing, acknowledging, celebrating the trailblazers that came from our very own community,” Brock expressed, emphasizing the event’s role in celebrating their shared history.
Esteemed attendees included UGA President Jere Morehead, who offered remarks, and the keynote speaker, Dr. Juanita Johnson-Bailey. Dr. Johnson-Bailey, a distinguished scholar and Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching recipient, holds the position of Centennial Professor of Women’s Studies at UGA. Her presence underscored the event’s significance in the academic community.
In addition to honoring achievements, the BFSO is committed to supporting future leaders by granting several student scholarships each year, reinforcing its dedication to educational advancement and community empowerment.
