Excitement and Challenges as University of Georgia Students Begin the Fall Semester
With the fall semester kicking off, the University of Georgia campus is buzzing with activity as students, new and returning, settle in. The week was filled with the hustle of moving into dormitories, an experience marked by both excitement and a few challenges for many.
Incoming freshman Absra Demissie shared her thoughts on this new journey. “Well, it’s a bit overwhelming at times, navigating the new campus, but at the same time it’s quite fascinating, I, especially as an incoming freshman, am basically getting a little summary or intro of what the next four years are going to look like for me,” Demissie expressed.
Among the many students managing the move-in process, Porter Grinalds and Jack Barrett found teamwork essential. Grinalds noted, “You know, it’s a little bit crazy trying to unload all this stuff, but we get it done. My brothers came to help.” Barrett echoed the sentiment, adding, “It’s been amazing. It’s a good workout carrying everything and we had some trouble getting our beds situated, but eventually with enough manpower we got it to work.”
For those navigating the move for the first time, sophomore Emerson Harwitz offered some valuable advice. “Talk to people, make connections, everyone’s in the same boat even if they’re acting like they’re not,” Harwitz advised. “Just really try to enjoy it.”
Among the newcomers, Absra Demissie stands out with her enthusiasm for the new chapter. “I ultimately am happy to be close to home, and exploring this large, large campus with others as well,” she said.
