University of Georgia’s Impactful Year Highlighted by President Morehead

In a comprehensive State of the University address, University of Georgia President Jere Morehead outlined significant achievements and future goals. Among the highlights were the nearing completion of new schools of medicine and nursing, impressive student graduation rates, and a remarkable $9.2 billion economic contribution to Georgia’s economy.

UGA’s commitment to research was evident as its Research and Development spending soared to $654 million. President Morehead emphasized the faculty’s dedication, stating, “Our faculty’s belief in purposeful research allows them to excel at translating their findings into impactful solutions.” UGA has maintained its leadership by ranking first nationwide in bringing products to market, including innovations in biotechnology and methods to remove harmful chemicals from water.

Generous contributions from alumni and friends totaled over $300.2 million last year, reflecting strong support for UGA’s mission. Since Morehead’s leadership began, the number of endowed chairs and professorships has grown significantly from 227 to 401, further enhancing the university’s academic stature.
