Thanksgiving Travel Surge Anticipated, UGA Offers Free Vehicle Checks
As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, a significant increase in travel activity is expected across the United States. The American Automobile Association (AAA) forecasts that close to 82 million Americans will be on the move, with approximately 73 million opting for road trips. This accounts for about 90 percent of the total holiday travel, highlighting the popularity of driving as a preferred method of transportation during the festive period.
In preparation for this busy travel season, the University of Georgia is organizing its annual Operation Safe Drive event. Scheduled for Thursday, November 20, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the initiative offers a complimentary vehicle inspection service. Mechanics from the university’s Transportation and Parking Services will conduct thorough checks, including topping off fluids, inspecting belts and wiper blades, pressurizing tires, and performing a visual inspection of vehicles. This service is available to students, faculty, and staff at no cost.
Additionally, Bike Athens is participating by providing free bicycle inspections and tune-ups. This service ensures that those who prefer cycling have their bikes in optimal condition for the holiday season. The event is conveniently located at the College Station Park and Ride, making it accessible for the university community.
