University of Georgia Names New Associate Dean for Curriculum
The School of Medicine at the University of Georgia has welcomed Johan Bester as its new associate dean for curriculum, marking a significant step in the institution’s educational leadership. Bester, who officially assumed his role on January 1, brings a wealth of experience from his previous position at Saint Louis University School of Medicine.
At Saint Louis University, Bester served as associate dean for pre-clerkship curriculum and was instrumental in implementing a curriculum overhaul that prioritized active learning and evidence-based educational practices. His expertise in curricular development is expected to enhance the educational framework of UGA’s School of Medicine.
Bester’s vision extends beyond curriculum design; he is passionate about developing physicians who are well-equipped to address healthcare challenges. “We want to thoroughly train and develop physicians who will go out and do good in the world,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of a robust curriculum in preparing medical professionals to improve healthcare outcomes both locally in Georgia and nationwide.
With Bester at the helm, the School of Medicine anticipates a strategic enhancement of its curriculum, aimed at fostering a new generation of medical practitioners dedicated to community service and problem-solving across the healthcare spectrum.
