Southern Universities Form New Accreditation Body Focused on Academic Excellence

The landscape of higher education in the South is poised for transformation as six public university systems collaborate to create a novel accreditation framework. This initiative, known as The Commission for Public Higher Education (CPHE), aims to redefine academic standards and enhance student success across these institutions.

Unveiled on Thursday, the CPHE intends to focus on aspects such as academic integrity, student performance, and institutional achievements. This development comes amid growing critiques of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and its Commission on Colleges, especially from conservative groups.

The partnership includes university systems from Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. According to a release by the Georgia Board of Regents, the CPHE is committed to ensuring that colleges and universities meet and uphold high standards of academic quality and operational efficiency. The organization will implement rigorous, transparent, and adaptable accreditation processes centered on outcomes.
