After a distinguished career in public service spanning more than four decades, Sonny Perdue is stepping down from his role as the University System of Georgia Chancellor. Perdue, who has been in the position for the past four years, announced his retirement, marking the end of a significant chapter in his career.

The search for Perdue’s successor is already underway. Until a new chancellor is appointed, Perdue will continue to fulfill his duties, ensuring a smooth transition within the University System of Georgia (USG).

Sonny Perdue’s contributions to public service include two terms as the governor of Georgia from 2003 to 2011. During his gubernatorial tenure, Georgia achieved record-breaking graduation rates and SAT scores, highlighting his commitment to educational excellence.

Governor Brian Kemp lauded Perdue’s enduring dedication to maintaining the accessibility and affordability of higher education for residents of Georgia. Under Perdue’s leadership, Georgia has consistently ranked as one of the most affordable states in terms of tuition and fees, holding the position as the 5th lowest in the nation.
