New Leadership Announced for Thomasville City Schools
In a significant development for Thomasville City Schools, the Board of Education has named Shayla Wiggins Savage as the new superintendent, effective October 7. Her appointment marks a pivotal moment for the district, bringing in a leader with over two decades of experience in North Carolina’s public education system.
Savage’s most recent role was as the chief student services officer in the Iredell-Statesville school district. Her extensive background also includes serving as a principal in both Guilford and Randolph counties and working as a school leadership coach with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Upon her appointment, Savage expressed her commitment to foster an inclusive and supportive educational environment. She remarked, “Leadership is not about a title. It’s about service. It’s about sacrifice. It’s about relationships. And it’s making sure that every single child has an opportunity to become everything that they were created to be.”
Savage’s academic credentials are notable, with two bachelor’s degrees in special education and a master’s degree in school administration from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. She also holds a doctorate in educational leadership, underscoring her commitment to advancing educational standards and practices.
