Revitalizing a Landmark: Transformations at College Square
College Square, an essential pedestrian hub positioned opposite the renowned UGA Arch, is currently undergoing significant changes. Spanning from East Broad Street to East Clayton Street, this area is a crucial intersection between the vibrant downtown Athens and the University of Georgia campus. Despite its charm, the square is currently enveloped in an extensive construction project.
Athens-Clarke County government, in conjunction with the Athens Downtown Development Authority, is spearheading efforts to revitalize College Square. The focus is on enhancing pedestrian accessibility, strengthening business connections, and upgrading infrastructure with better paving and lighting solutions.
In a recent interview with WUGA’s Emma Auer, David Lynn, the Director of Planning and Outreach for the Athens Downtown Development Authority, provided insights into the development plans.
