Michigan Medicine Seeks Fair Agreement with Blue Cross Blue Shield
Efforts are underway at Michigan Medicine to secure a fair contract with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, aiming to safeguard patients’ access to in-network physicians, hospitals, and services while ensuring appropriate compensation for the specialized care offered.
Negotiations are ongoing with the goal of finalizing a satisfactory agreement before the current contract lapses on June 30, 2026.
University of Michigan staff, dependents, and retirees covered by Blue Cross insurance will maintain access to Michigan Medicine’s physicians and facilities regardless of the negotiation outcome by the June deadline.
Throughout the negotiation process, Michigan Medicine has consistently delivered high-quality care. Patients currently receiving or considering care from Michigan Medicine are encouraged to continue doing so.

Individuals wishing to express support for keeping Michigan Medicine in-network are encouraged to communicate directly with Blue Cross, reach out to state legislators, or share opinions on social media platforms.
“What we’ve learned over the past few weeks reaffirms what we’ve known about our Michigan Medicine community; we have a powerful voice,” stated Julie Ishak, Michigan Medicine’s chief nurse and operations executive.
She added, “We’ve heard from faculty, staff, and many other constituents within the organization who are committed to advocating for our patients and are willing to help carry that advocacy forward. We highly encourage them to leverage their network and amplify that voice.”
