Maria Palma Leads KUNR Youth Media in Collaboration with WCSD & UNR

KUNR Youth Media Program recognized as 2026 CTE Champion Award

In a remarkable achievement for local journalism, Maria Palma has taken the helm of KUNR Youth Media, collaborating with Mr. Brian La Torre, the Multimedia Teacher at WCSD Reno High. This initiative is shaping the future of young journalists in the region.

KUNR Youth Media offers a semester-long internship program that immerses high school students in the world of journalism. Established in 2017, the program works in collaboration with the Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno, and WCSD. Participants are trained in radio production, interviewing, and audio editing, equipping them with the skills to create broadcast-ready stories.

The WCSD Career and Technical Education (CTE) Night of Excellence is an annual event that celebrates the exceptional achievements of students in CTE programs. It not only recognizes outstanding student accomplishments but also highlights effective educators and quality programs.

This year’s celebration is scheduled for May 21, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. It will be held at the TMCC William N. Pennington Applied Technology Center, located at 475 Edison Way, Reno, NV 89502.
