Annual Festival Celebrates Music, Art, and Education
The Hey You! Hoe Down Musical Festival is set to commence this weekend, marking its fourth year with a lively array of musical performances, an art auction, and a new beer release. The festival aims to raise funds for educational grants, created in memory of the late educator Carrie Fischer Siegmund.
Organizer Dana Siegmund, honoring his late wife, emphasized the importance of the event. “The kind work that she did was so specialized and just so unique that we created this grant to promote these kinds of experiences for students in classrooms in our area since she’s not here to do it herself,” Siegmund explained. “So, this is just a vehicle to continue Carrie’s professional legacy.”
Attendees can expect the awarding of two $1,000 grants, with applications currently open. The foundation, according to Siegmund, is expanding its efforts. “We’ve been able so far, to raise over $60,000 and completely endow the first grant which was called the Carrie Fischer Siegmund Grant [Fund] for Classroom Innovation. This year, we’re beginning our second fund which is called the Carrie Fischer Siegmund Memorial Fund.”
