Community Celebrates New Beginning for Lindley Elementary School

Excitement fills the air in Guilford County as the community prepares to witness the next chapter for Lindley Elementary School. On Monday, officials will mark the start of construction with a groundbreaking ceremony for the anticipated new school building.

This development follows the 2024 decision by the Board of Education to demolish and rebuild the nearly century-old structure. The original building was deemed inadequate, both in its deteriorating condition and its size, to serve the increasing student population in the area.

While the decision to tear down the historic structure was met with concern from some Lindley families and community members, district officials reassured them that the new design would incorporate elements from the old building to respect its legacy.

Two years from that pivotal decision, the old Lindley Elementary School has been cleared, paving the way for construction to commence. To honor this significant occasion, the district has organized a ceremony from 4 to 5 p.m., symbolizing a new beginning for the local education landscape.

The entire project carries a budget of $76 million, reflecting the district’s commitment to providing a modern, accommodating learning environment for future generations.
