Georgia among 2026 Best States for Racial Equality in Education

Georgia Leads in Educational Racial Equality, Study Finds

Georgia emerges as a leader in educational racial equality, according to a recent study by WalletHub. The research highlights the state as having one of the smallest disparities between Black and white students’ educational achievements.

Chip Lupo, a writer and analyst, notes Georgia’s strengths in several educational metrics, including high school graduation rates, the proportion of adults with at least a high school diploma, and the percentage of adults holding college degrees. “Georgia is a very diverse state when it comes to Black and white Americans,” Lupo states. “Which is key because what we found interesting is that some of the states that perform best, as in having the least gaps in attainment, are some of the states that are not as diverse.”

However, the study also reveals areas needing attention, particularly in the gaps in test scores between racial groups. Despite decades of financial reforms, school districts with fewer Black and Hispanic students continue to receive approximately $900 to $1,000 more per student, on average. These funding disparities can result in lower-quality education, impacting students’ future earning potential and long-term career opportunities.
