Amanda Cook Elected to Represent House District 60 in NC Assembly

High Point Council Member Amanda Cook to replace Brockman in NC House

High Point Council Member Appointed to North Carolina Legislature

Amanda Cook, who serves on the High Point City Council, has been chosen by Guilford County Democrats to fill the vacancy in North Carolina’s House District 60. Her appointment follows the resignation of Cecil Brockman, who faced legal issues last month.

Brockman stepped down after being charged with felonies related to an alleged inappropriate relationship with a minor. Cook, who has a background as a public school teacher, gained support from the Progressive Caucus of the North Carolina Democratic Party and emphasized her plans to target poverty reduction in the district.

“We have to strengthen year-round economic development here in High Point in order to build the infrastructure for our families,” Cook stated. “So my first priority is to make sure that we don’t have a city full of Title One schools.”

During the selection process, Cook secured 55% of the votes, surpassing her opponents Joseph Alston, Bruce Davis, and Angie Williams-McMichael. Her term will last until the conclusion of Brockman’s original term in late 2026.
