Governor Stein Presents New Home to Hurricane Helene Survivor

North Carolina’s January Employment Figures Released

RALEIGH, N.C. — Governor Josh Stein has delivered a new home to Dennis Fultz, a Leicester resident who lost his house to Hurricane Helene. The house was provided under the Renew NC’s Single-Family Housing Program. This initiative aims to support families in western North Carolina recovering from the hurricane. Governor Stein emphasized the importance of affordable, safe housing for long-term recovery and called for increased federal support.

The Renew NC program, administered by the Department of Commerce’s Division of Community Revitalization, has already completed over 1,250 home repairs and reconstructions. Governor Stein continues to advocate for a $10 billion federal appropriation to further aid recovery efforts. This would include $3 billion from HUD to rebuild homes. The program reports progress with over 150 homes completed, 167 under construction, and more than 600 in pre-construction stages.

Efforts extend beyond housing. Governor Stein has signed a state budget allocating over $700 million for Hurricane Helene recovery. Key initiatives include strengthening infrastructure and resilience, supporting affordable rental housing, and revitalizing commercial districts. The administration has also launched workforce housing programs to enhance economic opportunities in the region.

Governor Stein’s administration maintains a strong focus on rebuilding efforts, with 99% of storm-damaged drinking water systems restored and significant progress in reopening roads. Despite these efforts, unmet federal needs remain substantial. The governor continues to press for federal assistance to address these challenges and support long-term recovery in western North Carolina.
