Georgia’s Unemployment Rate Hits Record Low, Surpassing National Average
Georgia’s job market is showing promising signs of growth, as the state’s unemployment rate fell to an impressive 3.2% in August. This marks the lowest unemployment rate since February 2024, positioning Georgia 0.9 percentage points below the national average.
Both Georgia’s labor force and employment rates have reached unprecedented levels. In August alone, the labor force expanded by nearly 10,000 individuals, contributing to a year-long increase of almost 70,000. Job numbers saw a positive shift with an 8,000 increase after experiencing declines in the preceding two months.
The most significant employment gains were observed in sectors such as administrative and support services, state government, and retail trade. Conversely, sectors like non-durable goods manufacturing and private educational services faced job losses.
Additionally, initial unemployment claims saw a reduction, decreasing by over 3,000 in August, indicating a strengthening job market.
