Georgia’s Labor Market Reaches New Heights
July marked a historic month for Georgia’s labor market, with employment and labor force numbers reaching unprecedented levels. The Georgia Department of Labor reported that employment skyrocketed to 5,301,774, while the labor force expanded to 5,480,790, both setting new records. The state’s unemployment rate fell to 3.3%, mirroring the rate from a year earlier and sitting 0.8 percentage points below the national average.
In response to these figures, Georgia Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes stated, “Georgians are working at the highest levels of employment and labor force participation in our state’s history. A record like this is not a finish line; it is a responsibility to make sure every Georgian has the opportunity to get ahead and experience the dignity of work.”
Sector Growth and Decline
Over the past 12 months, the state added nearly 69,000 jobs. Notably, sectors such as health care and social assistance, construction, information, and durable goods manufacturing saw significant growth. However, employment in local government, administrative and support services, and accommodation and food services experienced a decline during the same period.
