Georgia’s Employment and Labor Force Reach Unprecedented Heights in June
In June, Georgia experienced a remarkable surge in employment and labor force numbers, setting new records. According to the latest data from the Georgia Labor Department, the state’s employment soared to over 5,294,000, a monthly increase of more than 10,000 and an annual boost exceeding 65,000.
The most significant monthly employment growth occurred in sectors such as private educational services, administrative and support services, and retail trade. On an annual basis, health care and social assistance, private educational services, accommodation and food services, and local government sectors demonstrated the most substantial job increases.
Georgia’s unemployment rate remained steady at 3.4%, which is 0.8 percentage points lower than the national average. The labor force also achieved a record high, surpassing 5,477,000 participants.
State Labor Commissioner Barbara Rivera Holmes commented on the impressive figures, noting, “Georgia’s labor force and employment have reached new all-time highs for the sixth month in a row, proving the strength of a modern, adaptable workforce ready to grow, compete, and lead.”
Despite these gains, the state reported a decline in jobs within the federal government transportation, warehousing, and utilities sectors over the year.
