GE Aerospace Expands in NC: 44 New Jobs, $52.9M Investment in Ashe

North Carolina’s August Employment Figures Released

Governor Josh Stein announced today that GE Aerospace will expand its operations in Ashe County, North Carolina, bringing 44 new jobs to the area. The company plans to invest over $52.9 million in its West Jefferson facility. This development underscores the region’s significance in the aerospace industry, with the new jobs expected to bolster the local economy through a potential annual payroll impact exceeding $2.2 million. A performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund will provide financial support for the expansion.

GE Aerospace’s investment highlights North Carolina’s appeal as a hub for aerospace innovation. The company powers a significant portion of commercial and military aircraft worldwide, and its West Jefferson site plays a crucial role in manufacturing parts for the CFM LEAP engines. Expansion at this site is seen as a positive development for both the community and GE Aerospace’s clientele. The project is supported by various state and local entities, including the North Carolina Department of Commerce and the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina.

The new jobs created by this expansion will include positions for apprentice machinists, inspectors, and engineers. The One North Carolina Fund, which aids local governments in attracting economic investments, will provide conditional financial assistance for the project. All grants require local government participation and are dependent on the company meeting specific job creation and investment criteria. Local officials, including Senator Ralph Hise and Representative Ray Pickett, expressed their support and anticipation for the economic benefits the project will bring to the community.

With its rich pool of STEM talent and strong educational infrastructure, North Carolina continues to be an attractive location for aerospace companies. Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley emphasized the state’s thriving aviation sector, which includes over 400 aerospace companies. The collaboration of local governments, educational institutions, and industry partners is expected to support GE Aerospace’s growth and contribute to the state’s economic development efforts.
