Amazon’s $10B Cloud & AI Campus to Create 500 Jobs in North Carolina

Thriving North Carolina Communities are the Focus of the Largest Statewide Downtown Revitalization Conference in the U.S.

Governor Josh Stein announced that Amazon plans to invest $10 billion to establish a new high-tech cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) innovation campus in Richmond County, North Carolina. This development is expected to create at least 500 new high-paying, high-tech jobs in the region. Amazon’s investment is one of the largest in the state’s history, aiming to boost the local economy significantly. The state was chosen due to its business-friendly environment, infrastructure resources, and skilled workforce.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), a leading cloud computing solution provider, will build data centers containing technology infrastructure such as computer servers and data storage drives at the new campus. These centers will support cloud computing and generative AI technologies for various industries, including automotive, health care, and manufacturing. Amazon’s Chief Global Affairs and Legal Officer, David Zapolsky, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation and economic growth in North Carolina. He highlighted the partnership with local leaders and educational institutions to nurture talent.

Senator David Craven expressed enthusiasm for the investment, highlighting the job creation and long-term economic benefits for the community. Representative Ben Moss and the Richmond County Board of Commissioners echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the transformative potential of the project for the rural area. The new facility will be located at the Energy Way Industrial Park, marking the largest capital expenditure investment in North Carolina’s history, according to Richmond County Board of Commissioners Chairman Rick Watkins.
