Cristina Killingsworth to Tour Louisiana Offshore Wind Tech Hub

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) has named the Gulf Louisiana Offshore Wind Propeller Tech Hub in Louisiana a Regional Technology and Innovation Hub (Tech Hubs), according to a statement from the Biden-Harris Administration. The Tech Hub, which is led by Louisiana State University, has been singled out for its role in advancing the offshore wind and renewable energy sector. Cristina Killingsworth, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy, is expected to visit the hub today.

The visit aims to strengthen the Hub’s strategy to address the immediate and future demands of the critical minerals supply chain, while also promoting a technology sector that’s vital to U.S. national security. The Gulf Louisiana Offshore Wind Propeller Tech Hub is seen as an emerging global leader in offshore wind and renewable energy, embodying the spirit and potential of the Tech Hubs program.

The Tech Hubs Program, a flagship initiative of the U.S. Department of Commerce, is designed to promote U.S. leadership in critical technologies and industries. The designation of the Gulf Louisiana Offshore Wind Propeller Tech Hub as a Tech Hub is seen as a strong endorsement of the region’s plan to boost its critical technology ecosystem and become a global leader in offshore wind and renewable energy in the next decade.

“The Gulf Louisiana Offshore Wind Propeller Tech Hub embodies the spirit and potential of the Tech Hubs program to take centers of excellence and make them world-class tech ecosystems through targeted investments,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. The Tech Hubs program is backed by $10 billion from the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act and aims to increase the pace of making, delivering, and deploying innovative technologies, thereby creating new companies and jobs.
