The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded a $574,588 grant to Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. The grant aims to extend support to entrepreneurs in three underserved regions within Utah.
The grant will aid in establishing the Wildcat Micro Fund, with the objective of providing business resources and training to entrepreneurs in rural and less-served areas of Utah. The EDA grant will be supplemented with local funds amounting to $784,732. Insights from the grantee anticipate the creation of 62 new jobs as a result of this investment.
The Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development, Alejandra Y. Castillo, acknowledged the EDA’s commitment to working with local communities to promote economic development rooted in the respective areas. Castillo emphasized the potential of this initiative in providing the necessary resources and training for entrepreneurs in underserved parts of Utah, which is expected to stimulate business growth, job creation, and a stronger regional economy.
Representative Blake Moore (UT-01) lauded the grant, highlighting the significance of small businesses in the economy and Utah’s reputation for its innovative and entrepreneurial spirit. Moore expressed enthusiasm about Weber State University receiving this grant, which is intended to expand support to entrepreneurs in rural and underserved communities in Utah. This, he believes, will enable more Utah residents to start businesses, pursue their interests, and provide for their families.
