Leadership Change Announced at Winston-Salem State University’s Athletic Department
In a significant shift within Winston-Salem State University, the institution has announced that Athletic Director Etienne Thomas will be resigning from her role. This decision comes after her five-year tenure guiding the university’s athletic programs.
The announcement was made public on Monday, with Chancellor Bonita Brown emphasizing that the timing allows WSSU to better align its athletic department with broader fiscal and administrative goals. These changes are part of the university’s efforts to develop a comprehensive new strategic plan.
In the interim, Deputy Athletics Director Eric Burns has been appointed to lead the department. Thomas is set to assist in the transition process over the coming weeks to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities.
The university has initiated a national search to identify a permanent successor for the athletic director position. Etienne Thomas will officially conclude her duties on December 31.
