New York Congressman Faces Criticism for Fundraising Efforts
New York Representative Mike Lawler’s attendance at a recent fundraising event has sparked controversy regarding his stance on reproductive rights. Over the weekend, Lawler participated in the 39th Annual Love Life Fundraising Banquet, an event benefiting the Care Net Pregnancy Center of Rockland, which is located within his district.
The center, often classified as a crisis pregnancy center, has come under scrutiny from critics who argue that such establishments aim to discourage women from considering abortions, frequently using medical misinformation to do so. This is not the first time Lawler has been linked to the center; he attended a similar event in October 2023 and was photographed with the center’s executive director. Despite these activities, Lawler’s campaign website emphasizes a “mainstream position” on abortion, promising to support access to contraception. Yet, the Care Net Pregnancy Center of Rockland’s website labels emergency contraception as an “abortifacient,” a term that medical experts largely dispute.
