Chlorine Plant in Georgia Will Not Be Rebuilt After Repeated Disasters
A decision has been made regarding the future of a Georgia-based chlorine plant that has historically been plagued by explosions and chemical fires. BioLab Inc., the company responsible for the facility, has announced it will not reconstruct its main manufacturing plant in Conyers.
Since the latest incident on September 29, which saw a significant fire causing a vast plume of orange and black smoke, BioLab Inc. has been unable to resume its manufacturing operations in Conyers. While production will not continue, the Conyers site will still function as a distribution center, handling customer orders by sourcing products from other manufacturing locations.
The September event had severe repercussions, compelling local residents to shelter in place. It also led to school closures and the shutdown of a major interstate, underscoring the plant’s impact on the surrounding community.
