Approximately 70 senior-level figures from government, business, policy, and economics sectors representing around 20 countries are set to tour various sites in Michigan from May 5-10, 2024, as part of the 18th Americas Competitiveness Exchange (ACE). The week-long event, hosted by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), is designed to facilitate the exchange of ideas, broaden networks, and promote sustainable, inclusive development, while strengthening supply chains.
ACE is spearheaded by the Organization of American States (OAS) and coordinated with various U.S. departments, including the Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Administration (EDA), the International Trade Administration, and the U.S. Department of State. Each ACE summit is conducted in partnership with a local entity in a different region.
The ACE event gathers decision-makers from across the Americas, the Caribbean, and beyond – including Trade Ministers, Secretaries of Economic Development, and Ambassadors. The primary purpose is to explore economic development opportunities and forge global partnerships. ACE Michigan delegates will tour almost 20 venues in Detroit, East Lansing, Grand Rapids, and Ann Arbor, interacting with innovation hubs, advanced technology centers, top firms, and educational and research institutions.
ACE Michigan is part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda. “The ACE’s summit in Michigan will help showcase how EDA, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, and other partners have helped catalyze innovation and growth throughout the region,” said U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. The delegates are expected to visit and engage with representatives from several EDA beneficiaries across Michigan, sharing economic best practices and learning about innovative regional and urban economic development models.
The CEO of MEDC, Quentin L. Messer, Jr., expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to host the 18th ACE, citing the potential for establishing new relationships and economic opportunities. The event also provides a platform to showcase Michigan’s key industries, university ecosystem and cultural landmarks to a global audience. For more information, visit the ACE website.
