Clarke County Celebrates Excellence in Teaching with Finalist Announcements

The Clarke County School District has proudly unveiled the names of three exceptional educators who have been shortlisted for the coveted Teacher of the Year award for the 2026-27 academic session.

The distinguished finalists are Cindy Alexander, representing Whitehead Road Elementary School; William “Montu” Miller from Cedar Shoals High School; and Matthew Rubenstein from Burney-Harris-Lyons Middle School.

Alexander is known for her work with fourth-grade gifted students, while Miller imparts knowledge in AP African American Studies, Ethnic Studies, and Peer Leadership. Rubenstein, on the other hand, is celebrated for his instruction in orchestra and classical guitar.

Each finalist has demonstrated a deep commitment to fostering meaningful connections with their students, encouraging them to take charge of their educational journey. This dedication is a common thread among the trio, who were chosen from a pool of 22 school teachers of the year.

The announcement of the district’s Teacher of the Year, along with the Support Professional of the Year, will occur at a special awards banquet scheduled for October 22.
