Nebraska Gov. Pillen Declares Emergency in Crofton After Severe Storm

Gov. Pillen declares state of emergency for northeast Nebraska town following severe weather

Emergency Declared in Crofton Following Severe Storm

The small Village of Crofton, home to just over 900 residents in Knox County, has been thrust into recovery mode following a state of emergency declaration by Gov. Jim Pillen. This declaration, announced on Wednesday, comes in response to a severe storm that battered the northeastern Nebraska town in early September, bringing with it intense winds and heavy rains.

The storm’s impact was vividly captured in numerous Facebook posts by Cedar County News and Norfolk Daily News, depicting significant tree damage. Photographs show entire trees or large portions of them uprooted, alongside images of damaged homes.

Mayor Randy Ausdemore of Crofton highlighted the extent of the destruction, noting that “a residential roof was gone, a garage destroyed” and multiple families were forced from their homes. The storm’s ferocity was exemplified by a wind gust that reached a staggering 98 miles per hour.

The Nebraska Public Power District also reported outages, including the collapse of a major transmission line. With the state of emergency declaration, the Governor’s Emergency Fund is now available to assist in the community’s recovery efforts.
