Athens Nonprofit Project Safe Hosts Groovy Nights for a Cause
In an effort to support victims of domestic violence, Project Safe, a well-established nonprofit in Athens, is organizing an exciting fundraising event this weekend. Known for its commitment to providing essential services to survivors, the organization invites the community to join them for a memorable evening.
Groovy Nights, scheduled for this Saturday, will feature a Lip Sync Battle, offering participants a lively way to contribute to a meaningful cause. Will McCranie, Project Safe’s director of development and community engagement, describes the event as a “fun-filled way to support a serious mission.” He emphasizes the importance of their work in Clarke, Madison, Oglethorpe, and Oconee counties.
Project Safe operates a family protection center for those who do not require a confidentially located shelter, as well as a secure emergency shelter. Additionally, they manage two thrift stores, with proceeds supporting their mission. McCranie highlights the event’s entertainment: “We’ll have a DJ there playing all of your retro favorites; and we’re considering retro 70s, 80s, and 90s, as much as it pains me to admit that the 90s are retro now. We’ll have a bit of a dance party; we’ll have 10 teams lip syncing to some of your favorite hits.”
Attendees can look forward to dancing to the tunes of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, alongside enjoying local food offerings included in the ticket price. A cash bar will also be available to enhance the experience.
