Communities Unite to Remember 9/11 Victims in Pennsylvania
Communities across Northeast and Central Pennsylvania gathered at various sites, including schools, churches, and parks, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. These solemn events served as an opportunity for reflection and remembrance.
In Luzerne County, a memorial ceremony took place at the County Courthouse. County Manager Romilda Crocamo, who witnessed the attacks in Manhattan and lost a cousin that day, shared her experiences. County Councilwoman Dawn Simmons also spoke of her time in New York City on that fateful day, emphasizing the unity that emerged on September 12, 2001.
At Luzerne County Community College, first responders gathered for a ceremony at the Walk of Honor. Felix Danz, a Geisinger Life Flight pilot and veteran, delivered a keynote address honoring his brother, NYPD officer Vin Danz, who died during the attacks.
In Clarks Summit, the community remembered Laura Lee DeFazio Morabito, a victim aboard American Airlines Flight 11. Meanwhile, students at various schools, including Lackawanna Trail and Montrose, participated in memorial activities by placing nearly 3,000 flags to represent each life lost and climbing the equivalent of 110 stories to honor first responders.
