RALEIGH, N.C. — Governor Josh Stein announced the creation of 179 new jobs in Beaufort County by Boater’s World Manufacturing Group, LLC. The company plans to invest over $6 million to establish a boat manufacturing campus in Chocowinity. This initiative is part of Outdoor Network’s expansion into boat manufacturing following its acquisition of NauticStar Boats. The move underscores North Carolina’s reputation as a favorable location for business investment, particularly in rural areas.
Governor Josh Stein emphasized the state’s manufacturing prowess and the strategic importance of attracting companies to rural North Carolina. The new facility will span 212,000 square feet on the Pamlico River waterfront, serving as Boater’s World’s flagship manufacturing operation. Martin Polo, CEO of Outdoor Network, highlighted the company’s commitment to better serving the marine community by integrating their retail experience with boat manufacturing. N.C. Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley noted the town of Chocowinity’s conducive environment for supporting the outdoor recreation economy, which is valued at $17 billion.
The new jobs are expected to offer an average annual salary of $54,916, surpassing the county’s average of $50,175. These roles could generate an annual payroll impact of more than $1.2 million for the region. Boater’s World will benefit from a $375,000 performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund, contingent upon meeting job creation and investment goals. Local government matching participation is required for the grant, which aims to support economic investment and job creation.
Senator Bob Brinson and Representative Keith Kidwell expressed optimism about the economic benefits and opportunities the project will bring to Beaufort County. Key partners in this initiative include the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, and various local educational institutions and government bodies.
