Johnelle Simpson to Fill Clarke County School Board Seat Unopposed

CCSD District Special Election canceled due to unopposed candidate

Uncontested Election Leads to Cancellation in Athens

The anticipated special election in Athens has been called off as the sole candidate, Johnelle Simpson, is set to assume the District 8 seat on the Clarke County School Board starting January. This development follows the resignation of Nicole Hull, leaving the position vacant since June.

Athens-Clarke County Board of Elections released a notice confirming the cancellation of the election. Initially scheduled for November 3, 2026, the election was intended to fill the remainder of Hull’s term. With Simpson as the only contender, the decision was made to remove the race from the ballot.

In accordance with election protocols, the board has declared that the unopposed candidate is considered to have cast their vote for themselves. Simpson’s term will conclude on December 31, 2028.
