Join U-M Ethics & Compliance Week: Engage in Sessions Oct. 19-23

University of Michigan Commences First Ever Ethics & Compliance Week

The University of Michigan is set to launch its inaugural Ethics & Compliance Week from October 19-23. This initiative, hosted by the Ethics, Integrity, and Compliance Office, aims to provide a comprehensive learning experience for faculty and staff across all U-M campuses and Michigan Medicine through a series of engaging sessions.

The event will emphasize ethical decision-making, workplace culture, conflict resolution, and compliance strategies. Participants can choose from a range of both in-person and virtual sessions to fit their schedules.

In-person events are slated for October 20 and 21 at the Michigan Union’s Pendleton Room, with a virtual “Ethics 101” session following on October 22.

The event is open to all faculty and staff from the University’s campuses in Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint, in addition to Michigan Medicine personnel.

A notable highlight is the keynote session titled “One Michigan. One Culture: How Behavior Strengthens Our Community,” scheduled for October 21 at 10 a.m. in the Pendleton Room. This panel discussion will explore how individual habits and decisions contribute to solidifying trust and unity within the university.

Moderated by Brigid Hart-Molloy, Director of Education and Outreach at the EIC Office, the panel will include:

• Monica Worline, Faculty Director at the Center for Positive Organizations and Lecturer III in Finance at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business.
• Brook Watts, Chief Quality Officer at Michigan Medicine, Professor of Internal Medicine, and Executive Director at the Medical School.
• Joe Zichi, Lead of the Well-being Collective.

Attendees at the keynote will be offered a light breakfast.

The week will also feature several educational sessions, including:

• Ethics 101: Led by the EIC Office’s Education and Outreach team, this session covers essential workplace ethical practices and will be available both in-person and online.
• Workplace Investigations: This hands-on, in-person workshop caters to leaders, teaching them fundamental skills for conducting fair and principled workplace investigations.
• Conflict Resolution for Leaders: A voluntary, in-person training giving supervisors and managers a restorative approach to proactively managing conflicts.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to engage with these sessions to foster conversations about the importance of ethics, integrity, and compliance in nurturing U-M’s mission and community culture.
