Billy Parker Steps In as Interim Sheriff Following Sam Page’s Retirement
Billy Parker has taken on the role of interim sheriff after the departure of Sam Page, who retired to pursue a seat in the state senate. Parker was selected by the county’s GOP to complete the remainder of Page’s term and is also the Republican candidate for sheriff in the upcoming general election this November.
Parker’s extensive experience in law enforcement spans over two decades, primarily with the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, where he concluded his service as captain of the criminal investigations division in 2014. Following his retirement, he began contributing his expertise to the local district attorney’s office.
Sam Page described his retirement as a “bittersweet” moment, having served as sheriff for 28 years. However, he expressed his continued commitment to public service, aiming to safeguard the community from a new vantage point within the state legislature. Earlier this year, Page narrowly emerged victorious over Republican state Senate Leader Phil Berger in the March primary.
