Rep. Chuck Edwards Sells McDonald’s Franchises Amid Election Campaign

In a move that underscores his commitment to public service, Rep. Chuck Edwards and his wife Teresa are divesting from their six McDonald’s franchises. This decision comes as Edwards engages in a competitive re-election battle in North Carolina’s 11th District against Democrat Jamie Ager.

In a statement released on Monday, Edwards explained that the sale allows him to “devote even greater attention to public service.” His journey with McDonald’s began at the age of 16, working behind the counter, eventually advancing to management. This experience, Edwards notes, instilled in him values such as “hard work, personal responsibility, teamwork, and serving others,” which have influenced his career from business ownership to his roles in the North Carolina Senate and Congress.

Teresa Edwards took over the daily management of the franchises when Chuck Edwards assumed a seat in the state Senate in 2016. The restaurants have now been acquired by Christine and Chris Nevant, who are described as long-time family friends by Edwards’s congressional office.

Edwards, who began representing the 11th District in 2023, is currently under a House ethics investigation concerning allegations of inappropriate behavior towards female congressional staff members, accusations he firmly denies.
