FEMA Allocates $36.6 Million for Georgia Disaster Recovery

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced a significant financial boost for disaster recovery in Georgia, allocating an additional $36.6 million to aid various recovery initiatives. This funding primarily supports projects under FEMA’s Public Assistance program, which funds 75% of eligible response and recovery costs, contributing approximately $1.5 billion towards Georgia’s recovery from Hurricane Helene.

In particular, The Medical Center, Inc. and University Health Services, Inc. have been awarded $25.5 million and $2.7 million, respectively, to cover COVID-19 emergency protective measures. Additionally, Excelsior Electric Membership Corporation is set to receive $971,000 for the restoration of power infrastructure damaged by Hurricane Helene.

Chatham County will benefit from $441,000 allocated for disaster management expenses, while Appling Healthcare has been granted $131,500 for necessary building repairs. Further support has been directed towards individuals and families dealing with complex recovery needs, with $6.7 million approved for Georgia’s disaster case management program.
