UGA Provost Dr. Benjamin Ayers Appointed as Clemson University’s New President

The University of Georgia (UGA) is preparing for a significant transition as its Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost, Dr. Benjamin Ayers, steps into a new role. Dr. Ayers will assume the presidency of Clemson University starting August 1st, marking the continuation of a trend where UGA provosts advance to lead major universities.

Dr. Ayers, who joined UGA as an Assistant Professor in 1996, has dedicated nearly three decades to the institution. His tenure at UGA has been marked by a steady rise through various academic positions, culminating in his leadership roles as Director of the School of Accounting, Dean of the Terry College of Business, and most recently, Provost and Senior VP of Academic Affairs.

UGA President Jere Morehead expressed his appreciation for Dr. Ayers’ exemplary leadership and contributions. “His consistent dedication has been invaluable,” Morehead noted. An interim provost will be announced soon, with a nationwide search for a permanent successor to follow in the upcoming weeks.

Dr. Ayers’ move to Clemson signifies a new chapter for both institutions, showcasing the strong leadership cultivated at UGA. His appointment is set for a five-year term, during which he is expected to bring his extensive experience and vision to Clemson University.
