Drought Triggers New Water Restrictions in Boone, North Carolina
In response to ongoing drought conditions in North Carolina, officials in Boone have implemented stricter water usage policies effective July 1. Residents and businesses in the area must comply with these new rules to help conserve water resources.
According to the guidelines, water customers in Boone are prohibited from activities such as watering lawns and gardens without approval, washing cars or sidewalks unless a reclamation system is used, and filling swimming pools. These measures aim to curb non-essential water use.
Commercial entities are also subject to similar restrictions to ensure uniform efforts in water conservation. Violations of the restrictions may result in civil penalties, although the town has not specified an end date for these measures.
The introduction of these restrictions comes amid worsening drought conditions affecting more than 60 counties in North Carolina, many of which are facing extreme or exceptional drought classifications.
