Nearly $3 Million Allocated for Affordable Housing in Athens-Clarke County
A significant investment in affordable housing is set to take place in Athens-Clarke County, with local authorities committing nearly $3 million to support this crucial initiative. The funding, sourced from the county’s 2020 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) program, aims to enhance infrastructure related to affordable housing, including roads, sidewalks, and sewer systems.
The county government is reaching out to nonprofit organizations and private developers, inviting them to apply for a share of the funds by the deadline of July 24th. Interested parties can submit their proposals online or in person, with additional details available on the Athens-Clarke County government website.
All proposals will undergo a review process, with final approval by the Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission anticipated in early October. This initiative highlights the county’s commitment to developing sustainable and affordable housing solutions for its residents.
