Colorful Celebrations Set to Brighten Downtown Athens for PrideFest
This weekend, downtown Athens will transform into a vibrant celebration as PrideFest takes place on Saturday, June 6. This annual event has been a staple for over half a century, providing a space for the LGBTQ+ community to celebrate and advocate for equal rights. Pride events, filled with joy and activism, are scheduled throughout June nationwide, including this one in Athens.
From 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., the PrideFest festival zone will come alive with local artists, businesses, and food trucks showcasing their offerings. Attendees can enjoy a variety of performances, including those by a DJ, a live band, and drag artists, adding to the lively atmosphere of the event.
A special Kids’ Zone will be available from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., featuring engaging activities such as chalk art, yard games, and face painting, ensuring fun for the whole family.
The highlight of the day, the Athens Pride Parade, will commence at 5 p.m., making its way through the heart of downtown, covering Pulaski, Clayton, College, and Hancock streets. This parade is a visual spectacle and a statement of pride and solidarity.
Organized by the Athens Pride and Queer Collective, this festival combined with the Athens Pride Parade last year, continues to grow. This year, event planners anticipate welcoming 8,000 attendees.
Entry to PrideFest is free, inviting everyone to join in the celebration without any barriers.
