Travelers at Asheville Regional Airport can look forward to a smoother experience with the launch of a newly constructed rental car facility. This development is a significant part of the airport’s extensive expansion project valued at $400 million.
According to Angi Daus, the airport’s spokesperson, this addition simplifies the process for passengers as they deplane, collect their luggage, and get their rental cars without retracing their steps as before.
“We’re excited about this opening,” Daus expressed during a tour of the new facility. “Even though it’s a semi-small space, it’s a really important space in the next step of the project — and especially for the passenger experience and the flow of passengers.”
The rental car counters have previously been relocated several times, initially housed in trailers exposing customers to various weather conditions. Following the opening of the new terminal last summer, they moved into the old terminal. Now, they occupy a designated building adjacent to the recently opened baggage claim area.
Daus mentioned that while this facility is a significant addition, it might not be a permanent fixture. The potential construction of a second parking garage could lead to further changes, though such decisions remain in the distant future.
Starting Wednesday morning, passengers will have access to this new facility. Although a brief outdoor walk along a covered path is required to reach the baggage claim from the terminal, the transition from baggage claim to the rental car area will be indoors.
