Record Turnout for Georgia’s Early Voting Period
Voters in Georgia turned out in unprecedented numbers during the early voting period, according to state election officials. By Friday afternoon, over 900,000 residents had voted, representing 12% of the state’s active electorate.
Athens saw a significant voter turnout, with close to 12,000 early votes cast. This equates to 16% of the county’s total of 72,164 active voters. The elections in Athens cover multiple critical positions, including the mayoral race, five commission districts, and three Board of Education contests. Additionally, there is a vote on a proposed Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST).
