Severe Tornado Strikes Howard County, Nebraska, Leaving Trail of Destruction
In a dramatic display of nature’s fury, a tornado swept through Howard County, Nebraska, on Sunday, causing significant damage to the area. According to Howard County Emergency Manager Allen Wilshusen, the devastating storm resulted in the complete destruction of at least two homes near St. Libory, with another home suffering extensive damage. Despite the widespread destruction, there have been no reports of injuries.
As the clock struck 8 p.m. on Sunday, Wilshusen continued his efforts to assess the full extent of the damage across the county. In the aftermath of the tornado, emergency crews from St. Libory Fire and EMS took to social media to issue a cautionary message: “We appreciate everyone’s concern but powerlines are down and there is a lot of debris in the area impacted by the tornado. We ask that bystanders please put safety first and be considerate of those affected and stay away for now.”
The tornado was part of a larger system of storms that descended on central and eastern Nebraska, with several tornadoes being reported by trained storm spotters during the turbulent evening.
