Chloe Huddle, a recent graduate of Grand Canyon University with a degree in educational studies, had among her supporters Alan Kent, the retired firefighter who played a pivotal role in her birth 22 years ago.
“It just means the world to me that I have so many people here to support and celebrate me in this big life moment,” Huddle said.
Their unique connection traces back to February 15, 2004, when Kent responded to a medical emergency in Colorado Springs. “As we approached the scene, we got out, we heard Stacy upstairs screaming,” Kent recalled. “I was like, I think we’re going to have a baby.”
Within moments, Kent held newborn Chloe in his arms for the first time. This marked the beginning of a lasting friendship between Kent and the Huddle family, solidified when Chloe’s mother visited the fire station with her newborn to express gratitude.
Their bond strengthened over time, with Chloe celebrating her birthdays at the fire station and Kent pledging to be present for her major life events, a promise he has faithfully upheld.

“Since I’m retired, I’ve got a little bit of time,” Kent joked. “But even if I wasn’t retired, I wouldn’t miss this.”
Their connection evolved into a familial relationship over the years, with Huddle stating, “I love talking about it because it just shows there is so much hope in the world and goodness in the world, even in a heartbroken world.”
This enduring relationship has been a source of joy for Kent, who remarked, “In our line of work, we don’t usually have all the time good things happen. To have something as great as this was, and then to continue throughout the years to watch her grow, that’s been that connection, that bond throughout the years.”
Their story continues, with Chloe set to marry this summer. Kent has already planned to be there, supporting her at another milestone moment.
