Dr. Jennifer Scott Named Sole Finalist for Clarke County Superintendent Role

The Clarke County Board of Education has named Dr. Jennifer Scott as the sole finalist for the superintendent position, indicating a potential new chapter for the Clarke County School District. This decision follows a comprehensive search and review process.

Per state law, the board is required to observe a 14-day waiting period before a final decision can be made regarding Dr. Scott’s contract and official appointment. A vote and contract approval are expected to be announced at a subsequent meeting.

Dr. Scott stepped into the interim superintendent role in July 2025, succeeding Dr. Robbie Hooker upon his retirement. The board’s collaboration with the Georgia School Boards Association facilitated a national search, which attracted 32 applicants. The selection process was further refined with finalist interviews conducted on May 1-2.

Feedback from the community underscored a preference for a superintendent with local ties and a deep understanding of Athens-Clarke County. Dr. Scott’s extensive experience within the Clarke County School District, where she has served since 1998, aligns well with these expectations. Her previous roles include deputy superintendent, executive director, principal, assistant principal, and classroom teacher.
