On a bustling street in Miami, where most people swiftly pass by, one man’s decision to stop and take notice might have changed the course of a young boy’s life.

As darkness fell on Wednesday, a previously unlikely hero stepped forward in Miami.
Arnett Johnson, who has been living on the streets following his release from prison, spotted a situation that seemed amiss. A young boy was found wandering alone near the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Seventeenth Street — a strikingly unusual sight for that time of night.
Johnson shared, “I’m looking around for the parent, but I looked and I don’t see nobody… so what is this kid doing out here seven at night?”
Rather than ignoring the incident, Johnson followed his instincts. Recognizing that the child might be in danger, he contacted the police and stayed with the young boy until authorities arrived.
The police later commended Johnson for his alertness and willingness to help.
“This was a Good Samaritan that was sleeping in the streets and called us and gave us that information,” stated Officer Mike Vega. “Kudos to him, as we don’t know what could have happened to this child if he would have remained out in the street.”
Investigations revealed the child had been missing for over 12 hours. According to the authorities, the boy explained that his mother had dropped him off and left. She was subsequently arrested and charged with child neglect.
Amidst the concerns surrounding the incident, Johnson’s actions stood out — despite his own hardships, he chose to offer everything he could at that moment: his vigilance and warmth.
Despite having limited resources himself, Johnson modestly dismissed any accolades.
“Anybody would have done the same thing I did,” he remarked.
