Unseasonal Warmth Expected to Impact Sierra and Reno Regions
As temperatures climb, both Sierra communities and the Reno area are preparing for an unusual warming trend this week. Predictions indicate that the Sierra regions will experience temperatures reaching the 60s by the end of the week, while Reno’s valley floor could see temperatures soaring into the 80s as early as next week.
The early rise in temperatures is notable, as the earliest recorded instance of Reno reaching 80 degrees was on March 12. This upcoming Tuesday presents a possibility of surpassing the all-time high of 83 degrees, which was recorded on March 31, 1966.
These atypical temperatures are expected to have a significant effect on snow accumulation in the mountain areas. Residents and visitors alike are advised to steer clear of the Truckee River this weekend as the rapid snowmelt could lead to cold and fast-moving water conditions.
