Fire District Merger in Guilford County Set to Streamline Services
In a strategic move aimed at enhancing fire protection services, the Guilford County Board of Commissioners has sanctioned the unification of two fire districts.
This decision brings together the Pleasant Garden and Climax Fire departments under a single umbrella named the Central Piedmont Fire Protection Service District. This merger, initially announced by the departments last year, is now officially recognized for tax purposes by the county.
Jim Albright, the Director of Guilford County Emergency Services, emphasized to the commissioners that both districts had aligned their tax rates in anticipation of this merger. He stated, “These dollars go directly to the fire department for fire protection in those particular districts. There’s no opportunity for those monies to be used or supplanted anywhere else. So this is direct delivery services.”
The newly formed district is scheduled to commence operations on July 1, coinciding with the start of the new fiscal year.
